Topic: Deceit Punished
Text: Joshua 9: 3-9, 22-23

Today’s lesson describes the consequences of deceit by the Gibeonites. The Israelites made a treaty with them without consulting God. Discovery of deceit led to Israel’s anger. As punishment, Joshua cursed the Gibeonites and committed to slavery. They were perpetually assigned to menial tasks. From the passage, we learn that deceit has consequences – physical or spiritual or both.
As a Christian, truth, honesty and integrity are biblical principles that should guide all relationships. Prayerfully, we should also seek God’s guidance in our decision-making, to avoid deceitfulness.
